Financial Times: UN Climate Change Deadline Shelved

Efforts to reduce CO2 emissions to curb global warming have experienced significant setbacks this week. First the Financial Times of London reports that the timetable to reach a global agreement on climate change has been reportedly shelved after the UN waived the first deadline of the process laid out at last month’s emotional Copenhagen summit.

According to the FT "Nations agreed then to declare their emissions reduction targets by the end of this month. Developed countries would state their intended cuts by 2020: developing countries would outline how they would curb emissions growth." The FT noted that according to Yvo de Boer, the UN’s senior climate change official, the deadline had in effect been "shelved."

At the same time, reports of unseasonally cold weather in North America, Europe, and Asia has created a world view by some that problem is not warming, but cooling. Another factor is the apparent end of any effort of the United States Congress to take action to impose Cap and Trade or other CO2 reduction efforts. The election of United States Senator Scott Brown has ended the ability of Democrats to shut off debate. Politico released an comprehensive story on the impact of the Brown election in Massasschusetts.

Problems with the efforts to cope with climate change domestically and internationall have been growing. AnalysisOnline has provide comprehensive reports on theese problems.
